Children can be referred for play therapy provision by teachers, the SENCO or any adult within the school with a proficient understanding of the child’s needs and abilities.

A referral begins with the completion of a referral form.

The therapist gathers additional information about the child from their parent(s)/carer(s).

Sessions take place weekly and usually last 40 minutes.

Sessions take place in an appropriate designated room within the school.

As is the nature of therapy, the content of the sessions and the child’s processes should be respected as private.

The therapist adheres to the school’s Safeguarding Policy and the Ethical and Moral Therapeutic Code of Play Therapy United Kingdom (PTUK).

The length of a child’s provision may last between 8 sessions to a year.

A contract will be drawn up and agreed with the school.

Regular reviews will take place between the therapist and the school and the therapist and the child’s parent(s)/carer(s).

I also provide play therapy for groups of up to 4 children dealing with challenges including:

  • social skills
  • building self-esteem
  • working together
  • loss/attachment
  • dealing with anxiety
